Daily Living Support: What It Covers and How It Helps

Daily living support, also known as Assistance with Daily Living under the NDIS, is one of the most practical and widely used support categories. It covers the everyday tasks that help you stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

For many participants, this is the support that makes the biggest day-to-day difference.

What daily living support includes

Daily living support covers a range of tasks you may need help with on a regular basis. This includes meal preparation and cooking, household cleaning and laundry, shopping and errands, organising and maintaining your living space, and managing your daily routine.

It can also include support with personal care tasks like hygiene, grooming, and dressing, depending on your needs and NDIS plan.

How it is funded

Daily living support falls under the NDIS Core Supports budget. The specific line item is “Assistance with Daily Life,” which covers support workers who help you with everyday activities in your home or community.

Your funding amount depends on your individual plan and the level of support you need. If you are unsure how to access this funding or how much you have available, a support coordinator can help you work through it.

Why consistency matters for daily living support

Daily living support is personal. Your support worker sees your home, knows your routine, and understands how you prefer things done. That is why worker consistency is so important in this category.

When you see the same support worker regularly, they do not need instructions every visit. They know where things go, how you like your meals prepared, and what your priorities are. That saves time and makes the experience more comfortable for everyone.

Who can access daily living support

Daily living support is available to NDIS participants with funded Core Supports. It is also available to privately funded individuals who need practical help at home. At SOS Community Support, we work with participants aged 9 and above, including those with aged care needs.
